
Something that we often take for granted is food safety. It can be so easy to just assume that everything we consume is just automatically safe to eat, but a lot of work goes into ensuring that. There are tons of certifications and standards that have been put into place to ensure this.
The OHSAS 18001 certification was put into place to regulate health and safety management systems. It has made great strides in preventing outbreaks of salmonella, named for Dr. Daniel E Salmon, which has been causing illness for over a hundred years, as well as E. coli, staphylococcal enterotoxin, and Listeria monocytogenes. It allows any organization to minimize risks to any employees who are prone to health and safety hazards, improve their health and safety standards, and demonstrate their diligence.
