Being Smart About Food Safety

Iso 9001 requirements

Something that we often take for granted is food safety. It can be so easy to just assume that everything we consume is just automatically safe to eat, but a lot of work goes into ensuring that. There are tons of certifications and standards that have been put into place to ensure this.

The OHSAS 18001 certification was put into place to regulate health and safety management systems. It has made great strides in preventing outbreaks of salmonella, named for Dr. Daniel E Salmon, which has been causing illness for over a hundred years, as well as E. coli, staphylococcal enterotoxin, and Listeria monocytogenes. It allows any organization to minimize risks to any employees who are prone to health and safety hazards, improve their health and safety standards, and demonstrate their diligence.

Another important standard to know about is Iso 14001 certification, which can give companies an extra competitive edge. This set of ISO drafting standards deals with environmental management by providing a framework for companies to better control their environmental impact. Using these guidelines can result in a lowered cost of waste management, savings in regards to energy and material consumption, lowered distribution costs, and a better all around corporate image.

One last thing to keep in mind is the Iso 50001 certification. This pushes companies to improve their systems of energy consumption. After implementing this policy, you will be able to develop a better policy for energy use, use data to more accurately understand and make decisions about energy use, measure your results, and consistently improve your practices.

Food safety, environmental management, and energy consumption are all very easy to gloss over. However, when corners are cut, extra money will eventually be spent, and the health and well being of people is at risk. Keeping up with the ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and OHSAS 18001 certifications allows you the reassurance of a safe and efficient work environment.
