What is the Difference Between Alkaline and Zinc Carbon Batteries?

Batteries are a useful item that most of use every day. However, we likely don’t think twice about how they work. Did you know that there are two main types of batteries? In this video, you will learn about Alkaline and Zinc Carbon batteries.

Alkaline and Zinc Carbon batteries may look the same, but they are vastly different. Zinc Carbon batteries uses a carbon rod, Zinc container, Maganese oxide, and moist paste of ammonium chloride.

On the other hand, Alkaline batteries use a nickel-plated steel can, Manganese dioxide, a separator, zinc particles, and a brass pin current collector. Alkaline batteries are better because they are newer, last longer, and transfer more energy. They are also better for the environment because people don’t have to use as many of them.

Most dead batteries are taken to a landfill. This is an issue because they can take up to 100 years to decompose. Obviously, this is not good for the environment. Instead, consider alkaline battery recycling. Batteries can be used to make things such as bicycle frames or the mixture used to make roads.
