Most pool sand filters work the same way, the water is filtered through sand, which cleans the water through the process. To start, you will need to disconnect the assembly and remove the entire top. You will see a white PBC tube sticking out of the hole of the filter.
This pipe runs through the sand and is attached to screens, or laterals, at the bottom. These will fold for easy removal. Before going any further, you will need to remove the sand either by dumping it out or using a dry vacuum to suck the sand out.
Once you take the lateral assembly out, clean the entire inside of the bowl and the laterals. Oftentimes, when you have sand in your pool, it is because there is a crack in one of the laterals. If you see no cracks, check to make sure everything is screwed on tightly. If you end up in a position where you need to replace any parts of your filter, be sure to check the model number before going to the store so you are prepared to get what you need. Be sure to add new sand to your filter, and avoid filling it with the old sand.
