Tips for Building a Shipping Crate
Building your own shipping crate may not strike someone needing a crate for moving homes or shipping an item. However, it presents great opportunities to learn some construction tips and save you some money in the long run. Let’s go over a few tips that’ll help you build your first shipping crate.
After making proper measurements for how large, wide, and tall your crate needs to be, it’s time to gather the proper tools and materials. Finding lumber should be your first priority for this project. You’ll first need to learn how to cut plywood on a table saw. Be sure to pick boards that do not have the pith, also known as the center of the tree.
As an assembly tip, you’ll need decking screws. To ensure safe transportation, make sure you add a couple of layers of shipping blankets so that nothing is broken or tampered with by significant movement. Be sure you are adding blankets underneath, besides, and on top of the crate contents. If you can, have another person help you with the assembly process.
