The first thing you should always do when operating a forklift, is put on your seatbelt. If the forklift jolts at any point, you do not want to get tossed around. Now you can put the key in the ignition and turn it to start the engine. Remember to turn off your parking break. As for driving, the wheel turns like a car. It also accelerates and reverses like a car as well. The stick is on the left of the wheel instead of on the right below the dashboard.
You may notice that there are four levers next to the steering wheel. These levers operate the lift itself. The first level moves the lift up and down. The next lever tilts the forks. The third lever moves the fork side to side. The last lever is for activating clamps if your forklift has clamps installed.
