Are You Making These Mistakes Building Your Deck?
Decks add so much value to a house. There are many reasons to consider adding a deck. They provide excellent spaces to relax, dine, or take in the beauty of the outdoors. You could have someone install a deck for you or do it yourself.
However, if you are considering doing it yourself, there are some common mistakes you need to avoid. In this video, you will learn about these common mistakes when building a deck.
The first mistake is lagging the bolts along the railings. This can lead to wobbly and unstable railings. Instead, use carriage bolts all the way through to provide much more support. Another issue may run into is large gapping in between the butt joints. Large gaps can trap leaves and dirt which will cause the wood to rot overtime. Instead, run a breaker board if your deck is over 20 feet. Stringers can also be done wrong. They should be placed every 12 inches to provide adequate support. Risers should also only have 3 and 1/2 inches of each other. You also want to make sure you build your deck on a solid foundation. These are just a few of the things you should keep in mind when building your deck.
